Keeper! Not sure how many times I've come back to this for a listen. Vassar sounds like he's been playing with these guys forever. Vassar could have probably sat in with any band in the world and managed to mix in.

I remember being at a Magfest one year where he was jamming with a bunch of kids from a local school. "I'm learning a lot more from you kids right now than you will ever learn from me." Vassar was the man. Wherever you are Vassar, we miss you.

The Col says it best at end of Million Dollars - "the man who invented music... Vassar Clements...."

Thanks for the awesome recording and upload. I'll probably be back again in a couple months to listen again.

This is a great concert recording. Thanks for providing this, tapers and Archive. Vassar Clements passed away today Aug. 16, 2005. I was able to play this Codetalkers show on my radio program Honest Tunes. It's great how Vassar is able to mix his fiddle sounds with all kinds of music from bluegrass to jazz to rock to jambands to the crazy mix of all-of-the-above that you get with Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Herring, and the Codetalkers.

All songs except Lima played on my radio show tonight on KXUA 88.3 FM Fayetteville. Callers response was loving it too. By the way The Codetalkers will play in Fayetteville in September. May they carry the strength of spirit that Vassar Clements brought to the jams this one day.

this was definitely a highlight of a great weekend. Vassar and Herring with the Col. and the codetalkers, damn! and with a bass solo played while laying on top of the side of the bass! great stuff.
